Rascal Flatts Reveal It Was The Jonas Brothers Who Pitched 'I Dare You' To Them

Rascal Flatts have a Top 30 hit with "I Dare You." The song, a collaboration with the Jonas Brothers, is from Rascal Flatts' forthcoming new album, Life Is A Highway: Refueled Duets. The record includes reimagined versions of some of their biggest hits, joined by artists like Blake Shelton, the Backstreet Boys, Kelly Clarkson and more.

The only new song on the record is "I Dare You," which Rascal Flatts' Jay DeMarcus reveals was actually pitched to them by the sibling trio.

"We were putting this record together," DeMarcus recalls. "And one of the people we reached out to were the Jonas Brothers, about doing one of our songs. And they said they were thrilled that we asked, but instead of doing one of our songs, they had written a song recently with Shay Mooney that they wanted to throw in the hat. And I loved the song when I first heard it. It seemed to fit what we do, and it's a really great collaboration."

Rascal Flatts' 'Life Is A Highway: Refueled Duets' Album

Rascal Flatts surprised fans when they announced the release of Life Is A Highway: Refueled Duets. The record marks their first since Back To Us came out in 2017. It's also their first since Rascal Flatts, which also includes Gary LeVox and Joe Don Rooney, announced their split in 2020.

It's a record that might not have happened without the Backstreet Boys. The two acts combine their talents on "What Hurts The Most."

"The Backstreet Boys is the first thing we did, and it turned out great," Joe Don Rooney tells their record label. "That kind of kicked things off. And then we had a little pause there for a little bit. We got back on the horse and finally rounded it out. So proud of this project. Grateful to be able to do it."

Clarkson joins Rascal Flatts on the stunning "I'm Movin' On" duet, the final song on the album.

"'I'm Movin' On' that Kelly did was such a magical, moving moment," LeVox says. "She had already done the vocal by the time I got in there. We just kind of listened to it really, and it was so good. And I think at that point in her life, that song, she was living it. And so, it was just right for her to do it, and us just put a little salt and pepper on it."
