Inspiration comes from all sorts of places for people. So, for '90s singer Chris Barron of The Spin Doctors, getting high is how he writes his best work.

Speaking to Rolling Stone, he admitted that for about 15 years, he was high 24/7. But, don't worry, it was nothing too serious. He was just a prolific weed smoker and loved to get stoned every day. He said that it was a form of self-medication that helped him focus.
"I was baked outta my mind high 24/7, man," '90 singer Chris Barron admitted. "I was high from the age of, like, 14 to 30." But he had to make a choice. "I stopped when my daughter was born. I wasn't with her mom. And I had this epiphany of like, 'If I'm getting high all the time, this is an avenue for my kid to be taken away from me."
It was the arrival of his daughter in his life that made him change his weed-smoking ways. Given the choice between a healthy relationship with his child or getting stoned, he chose the former.
Getting High Was A Form Of Self-Medication
Now, weed is being widely prescribed for its medical uses. The health benefits, both mentally and physically, are being widely studied. But in the past, this was not the case. Getting high was simply seen as the habit of criminals. However, for Chris Barron, it was the medical properties that kept him coming back.
Talking about his previous dependence, he stated that it was able to "quiet down the voices in my head." While he was high, he could focus and put his mind toward his music. He admitted that nowadays he would probably be put on antidepressants.
Getting high certainly didn't slow down the '90s singer, though. He was able to produce a whole load of albums in those stoned 16 years. Even now, they have a massive four million monthly listeners on Spotify. Their album 'Pocket Full of Kryptonite' sold an amazing 10 million copies, going multi-platinum.
It just took a little getting high for Cris Barron to find his musical inspiration.
