'The Fall' is one of those songs that I feel like should be on a movie soundtrack. ... "It should be on a movie soundtrack because it paints that picture of - you can see the struggle to get to the success," Johnson says. "And I think, for me I picture guys like Michael Jordan. You see all the work and all the tired and the angry and the tears and the blood and you get to the successful moment. You can even apply that to relationships too, but it has that that overall movie quality about it."
"The Fall" is from Johnson's Leather Deluxe Edition, out last year.
The Success Of "I'm Gonna Love You"
Johnson knew right away that "I'm Gonna Love You" was a masterfully written song. Although likely anyone would have made it a hit, Johnson said he would only sing it if Underwood sang it with him.
"From the moment I heard this song, I heard Carrie's voice on it. It was a non-negotiable for me; either we sing it together, or I wouldn't sing it at all. It's that special to me," Johnson says. "Working with Carrie has been an absolute pleasure. She's not only one hell of a singer, but she's a class act all the way around. It warms my heart to work with someone who's seen so much success in their career and they're still so down to earth. I feel like this duet is going to be massive in so many ways, and I couldn't be prouder of it!"
Underwood might not be Johnson's only duet partner. The Texan hints that he might have another collaboration on his next album, with another major superstar.
"Maybe I'm going in this year to go record a new album," Johnson teases on Audacy's Superstar Power Hour. "And there's a certain song that I'm pretty certain, we're just, we're kind of playing with it, we're going back and forth. I mean, it could be in the works. I can neither confirm nor deny."
