Rob Williford, who's worked with Luke Combs from the beginning, has launched "Ain't No Mountain," a soulful cover of the 70's classic.

The GRAMMY-nominated songwriter has been working hard on his next album, Johnny & Jenny, and he's released another song from the album in advance.
"Ain't No Mountain" is a peculiar cover of the iconic 70's song. It's been tweaked and tuned sonically to better fit the album it's a part of, which tells a cohesive story. Considering the last song released was Johnny (which is a personal favorite right now), we can start to speculate a general arc of the plot the album will spin.
When watching the music video, you may notice some cinematic parallels to the music video for Johnny. This is because Rob Williford has been making a short film to go alongside the album. I imagine the music videos are small windows into the film.
And I'm pretty damn excited for it.

Rob Williford's "Ain't No Mountain" Cover Was A Happy Accident
It turns out that Rob Williford hadn't initially planned a cover of "Ain't No Mountain High Enough" to be in the album. However, it works with the album, so it made the cut.
In a statement shared with WOC, Rob Williford said, "I think it's a timeless love song, with such a familiar lyric and melody. And, to be honest, this re-imagined version of the classic happened by accident."
"We were in Studio A at Fame in Muscle Shoals, and I was experimenting with the song in a minor key. A couple of the guys grabbed guitars and began playing along, and we hit record. Serendipitously enough, the take ended up being a perfect fit with the album's narrative."
I'm glad it made the cut. Having a haunting dressing over such a familiar track creates a kind of strange nostalgia. As though hearing the echoes of your loved ones in limbo. Considering how the album is shaping up, I feel like that's exactly what he was going for.
