Tayla has plenty of experience honoring Loretta in music. She sings both by herself and as part of the Twitty & Lynn duo, joined by Conway Twitty's grandson, Tre. With so many of Loretta's songs to choose from, Tayla loves the audience reaction when she performs this song especially.

"When I do it live, that seems to be the one that people, especially the women, just sing every word to," Tayla tells Whiskey Riff.

Tayla Lynn's Relationship With Her Grandmother, Loretta Lynn

Tayla grew up watching her grandmother perform. Their bond was incredibly close, with Loretta cheering her granddaughter on as she launched her own career.

"When we were living together, she would dress me up, and we would put that record player on and go through her hundreds of albums, and she would teach me how to sing the songs," Tayla recalls.

"I would Facetime her, and she would watch me perform," she continues. "And I would come home and she would critique it. She had such a hand in that. That's why I think I really stand in it. Because she said, 'I'm so proud of you.' She was happy to tell me what I wasn't doing right, so she had her stamp of approval on what I'm doing."

Loretta passed away on October 4, 2022. But Tayla still feels her presence, especially when she sits on Loretta's porch at the country music icon's home in Hurricane Mills, Tennessee.

"If I need to feel her, if I'm feeling particularly sad or I want to be close to her, I'll go sit on the porch," Tayla tells The Tennessean.

Music definitely runs in the family's blood. Tayla has high praise for her cousin, Emmy Russell, who made it into the Top 5 on Season 22 of American Idol.

"She's the best singer of all of us. I've always said that," Tayla boasts. "Memaw has been quoted to say that she's written like she was 40 years old since she was six."
