Johnny Mathis Retires From Touring Due To Health Issues

Johnny Mathis's fans probably anticipated this announcement at some point, but it still marks a bittersweet milestone in the legendary singer's life and career. At age 89, he says he will no longer be touring, citing heath issues, per foxnews.com. Per the outlet via

Facebook, a statement was released. "As many of you may already be aware, Johnny Mathis is approaching his 90th birthday this year [on September 30]. So it's with sincere regret that due to Mr. Mathis' age and memory issues which have accelerated, we are announcing his retirement from touring & live concerts."

The statement added, "At this time, the 2025 Voice Of Romance Tour dates will continue, with the final concert currently scheduled on May 18th, 2025 in Englewood, NJ at the Bergen Pac. Additional updates will be posted as necessary."

And there was this message as well. "Johnny Mathis & his entire staff send their heartfelt gratitude to all Mathis Fans worldwide for your continued love & support of his music! It's truly been "Wonderful, Wonderful."

One Phase Of Johnny Mathis's Remarkable Career Is Ending, Mixed With Excitement About Possible Upcoming Projects

In an additional note on Facebook, fans are told that "filming or streaming the final concerts is nor going to be possible." Despite that, there might be some "new music in the works."

He Has Achieved Numerous Milestones

Per the bio on his website, Mathis released popular songs like "It's Not For Me To Say," "Misty," "Wonderful, Wonderful," and "Chances Are" that all put him firmly on the music map. He was a guest on The Ed Sullivan Show in June 1957. That was a decisive turning point for him. Now, combined with his accomplishments, Johnny Mathis was a bona fide star.

His Greatest Hits compilation was on the Billboard Top Albums chart for an astonishing 490 weeks. Three of his songs are ensconced in the Grammy Hall of Fame. The year 2006 was Mathis's 50th "as a recording artist."
