Pug Johnson has released his second album, El Cabron, alongside a music video for the new single, "Waxahachie."

El Cabron is Pug Johnson's second album, and it's a continuation of his signature twangy style. He was described to WOC as sounding as though "John Prine was from TX with a touch of Cajun, swamp pop, swing and honky tonk."
"For fans of writers like Hunter S. Thompson, Terry Allen & Willie Nelson."
And I couldn't agree more. There's something inherently classic about his voice and writing style, which anyone who grew up around the genre will appreciate.
"Waxahachie" is the fun and groovy focus track of the album. An animated music video was released for the piece, which perfectly presents the light-hearted story of a woman leaving her good-for-nothing boyfriend to return to Waxahachie.
It's an easy song to listen to and is sure to give anyone from Waxahachie an ego boost.
You can watch the music video for "Waxahachie" below. The song is available on streaming platforms now.
Pug Johnson's 'El Cabron' Is As Dynamic Tribute To Classic Country
Every song on the El Cabron album reminds me of one classical country song or another, not that I can quite place my finger on them due to his unique style.
From slow and smooth with "Believer" to a rag-tag belter of "Pipeline Blues," Johnson strikes numerous styles of music. It'll be hard to not pick out at least one song you're partial to.
In a statement shared with WOC about "Waxahachie," Pug Johnson said, "This song has a fun groove and a comical story, so we eventually thought to have an animated video."
"I have to give a big shout-out to our director and animator, Efrain Cintron, of Coastal Lane Studio for being crazy enough to work within our time restraints. He created a video that captures the plot and vibe of the song in a fun way."
I can see why out of all the new tracks on the album, "Waxahachie" got the special treatment. The narrative it spins demands a story, and I'm glad they gave it a video.
