According to AZFamily, the incident took place on March 18 at Wilson Elementary School, located at 2929 E Fillmore Street. According to paperwork obtained by the outlet, students at the time heard what they described as "falling water." They were horrified to see Hinson allegedly urinating into a container right in front of them.
Reportedly, some of the students even saw Hinson's genitalia while he was allegedly urinating in the container. Immediately, three students reportedly went to the principal's office and told what they had just seen.
Detectives inspecting the scene discovered that Hinson's desk was not enclosed. This meant, unfortunately, that anyone could see his legs when he was sitting at the desk. Hinson was arrested and transported to the Phoenix Police Department headquarters. He then allegedly admitted to police that he had unzipped his pants and urinated into a white can.
He, however, allegedly told police that he didn't believe any of the students were able to see him. Moreover, he said he had covered his genitalia with his hands. Paperwork reviewed by AZFamily reported that Hinson explained to police that he decided to urinate into the can because he didn't know how to call for someone to step inside the class while he used the restroom. He was a new teacher at the school, according to him.
While he claimed this was just an "error of judgment," Curt Hinson was charged with four counts of felony indecent exposure.
School District Statement
Following the incident, the Wilson School District issued a statement shared with Fox 10. The school district confirmed that Curt Hinson was placed on administrative leave.
"We are actively working with the Phoenix Police Department regarding this matter. In accordance with policy, Wilson Elementary School District cannot provide details regarding personnel matters," the statement reads. "However, we can confirm that the teacher has been placed on administrative leave pending further action, has been relieved of all duties, and has been arrested. We are unable to provide any additional comments on this matter."
The school district also detailed its standard practices regarding teacher restroom use. "It is standard practice for teachers to ensure appropriate coverage for their classrooms when they need to step away briefly," the statement continued. "This typically involves coordinating with a neighboring teacher, instructional aide, or school administrator to ensure students remain supervised."
