Riley Green Singing Travis Tritt's “Drift Off To Dream” Is The Perfect Throwback

Riley Green is paying homage to a country music icon. Green just shared a clip of him singing a cover of Travis Tritt's "Drift Off To Dream." The song, released in 1991, is the final single from Tritt's debut album, Country Club.

"What a song," Green captions the clip, using the hashtags #countrymusic #weouthere #classic.

Tritt wrote five of the ten songs on Country Club, including "Drift Off To Dream," which Tritt penned with Stewart Harris. The song became Tritt's third Top 5 hit of his career.

Riley Green's "Cowboy As It Gets"

Green has a Top 20 hit with "Worst Way," with the song's success likely propelled by the accompanying video. But Green just performed another brand-new song, "Cowboy As It Gets." The song, Green reveals, is inspired by his own family.

"I always thought my daddy was a cowboy in a way," Green explains (via Whiskey Riff). "I always thought my grandaddy was a cowboy. Anybody that worked hard, used their hands, wasn't scared to say what they believe and stand up for what they believe was a cowboy to me.'

Ever since his debut "There Was This Girl" single, released in 2018, Green has been unapologetically country. For Green, he vows to remain true to his roots, something he would try harder to convince his younger self if he could go back in time.

"I'd probably just tell him to write as many songs as he could and play the guitar every night before you go to sleep," Green says. "Maybe concentrate less on sports 'cause that didn't really take me as far as the guitar has. But I've had a great career to this point and I've got a lot of opportunity coming up. So I don't know if I changed too much."

"Worst Way" is from Green's latest album, Don't Mind If I Do.

"This one's got a lot of different types of songs on it. When you have an album with 'Jesus Saves' and 'Worst Way,' it's hard to pick a name for that album," Green says. "'Don't mind if I do' is such a lighthearted phrase, how we use it in society. Like for me, I heard 'Don't Mind If I Do,' like a night out with the boys. You know, I probably shouldn't, but don't mind if I do; I'll only have one, and then I'll have three or four."
