Mason Via, who you may know from the Old Crow Medicine Show, has graced 2025 with another new single, "Melt in the Sun."

The psychedelic single goes over the lengths one would go to for their love. Mason Via provides killer vocals and producer Aaron Ramsey provides a mandolin solo. One that Via calls "dangerously powerful," and I couldn't agree more.
As Mason Via goes over the lengths he'd go to to be with his love once more. And you've taken on that journey with him. The lyrics are descriptive, vivid, and perfectly complemented by the instrumentation.
"Melt in the Sun" also comes with an incredible stop-motion animation by Chloe Tyler. If you look past the wild aesthetic, you'll find the story of a "time-traveling alien space cowboy searching to bring back his lost love and find her within the abyss of mirrors and forsaken desert wasteland."
I couldn't imagine better visuals for the track.
You can listen to "Melt in the Sun" below. It's available on streaming platforms now.
Mason Via Pulled From Many Places For Latest Single
In a quote shared with WOC, Mason Via goes over his many inspirations for "Melt in the Sun."
"I was inspired by watching The War on Drugs shred a sunset performance at Bonnaroo for my first time, I wanted to write something in a similar psychedelic indie rock vein of music," he shared.
"Lyrically, I was inspired by timeless poets like Robert Burns, Shakespeare's sonnets, as well as Appalachian folk songwriters like the beloved Ola Belle Reed. Another inspiration was my father, David Via, who is also a notable award-winning songwriter."
What's crazy to hear is that the song was originally an "Alt Rock" song. However, "When this bluegrass album came around to be recorded, I didn't want to hold any of the bangers back, so we grassified it and turned it into possibly my favorite song on the album. "
I find "Melt in the Sun" to be a rather bizarre piece but in all the right ways. I felt as though in a sort of limbo the first few times I listened to the song. And it's that stasis Mason Via finds himself in regards to his lost love.
