JoJo Siwa has made headlines repeatedly with her phenomenal lack of music and cultural knowledge. But, it's hardly surprising coming from an artist that could be replaced with a two-prompt AI without anyone realizing it, is it?

A year or so ago, JoJo Siwa accidentally let her musical ignorance and ego show by claiming "I want to start a new genre of music ... it's called 'gay pop." She went on to make it worse by attempting to clarify her claim. "I am not the inventor of gay pop, for sure not. But I do want to be a piece of making it bigger than it already is. I want to bring more attention to it," she told TMZ.
For JoJo Siwa to think she can even stand at the feet of artists like Elton John, Lady Gaga, George Michael, or Boy George is hilarious. Her music is so offensively generic that my eyes glaze over at the first cookie-cutter lyric and discount pharmacy-worthy 'backing track.'
The outrage people felt at her claim and counterclaim were justified. She's an obvious industry plant with unimaginatively crass music she calls gay pop. She has attempted to shoehorn herself in as a gay icon but is trying way too hard with her limited talent, and without any cultural knowledge, it seems.
JoJo Siwa Relives Her Gay Pop Blunder
Her statement skyrocketed her into viral fame, with many astounded at her confidence. But, she's able to look back on it and laugh. Hopefully, JoJo Siwa has done a little research into the genre she has written and produced for her since.
At the iHeartRadio Music Awards, she spotted Tetris Kelly. It was with this presenter that she said her famed words. She made light of the situation though, stating "I'm not talking to you. "You know what today is? It's not only the iHeartRadio Music Awards, which is where I said 'dream guest on my podcast' but it's also the one-year anniversary of GLAAD Awards, which is where with your a— I said, 'It's called gay pop."
Hopefully, since the fateful day, JoJo Siwa has become a little more humble. Her music is the kind of thing people who don't like music listen to to fill the silence. She certainly isn't doing anything new.
