It's no secret that Riley Green is the hottest thing in country right now. And I think that was only solidified with his release of the "Worst Way" music video. Fans may recall that he's always been a bit of a ladies man, and one of his early hits displays this.

In the singer's 2019 debut album Different 'Round Here, Riley Green released "There Was This Girl." It is the second most streamed song in the album, with almost 189 million streams on Spotify alone (For those curious, the top spot goes to "I Wish Grandpas Never Died.").
When Riley Green sat down with Songwriter Universe a couple of years ago, he shed some more light on the song. And it turns out he's always been one for the woman, as the song was inspired by trying to impress girls in general.
In the song, he explains to his dad why he did something stupid (speeding around a curve and crashing), and it leads back to impressing a girl he fancied. I can only imagine this is based off a true story (or might actually be a true story), especially when I read what he said about it.
Riley Green Goes Over His First Hit Song "There Was This Girl"
The singer was simply asked to talk more about the song, and he delivered a lengthy statement about it.
"I wrote that song with Erik Dylan, who I've written a lot of songs with. We started writing a song about us trying to impress the girl, so that was the idea," he explained. Sounds simple enough, and is pretty straight forward.
It's the next part that makes me believe there is more truth to the lyrics than he's letting on, however. "It was one of those songs that came together pretty easily, and I didn't know what we had as far as a radio hit."
It came together pretty easily, huh? Almost as if he was recalling the events as opposed to making them up. Now this is a conspiracy I can get behind. Forget those constant dating rumors. I want to know whether Riley Green crashed his dad's truck to impress a girl, and I want to know who that girl was.
Maybe I'm getting a little ahead of myself, however.
"But it was definitely a fun song and we had a good time shooting the video. It turned out to be my first number one, and a big song for me to this day," he concluded.
