Inspired by his experience adjusting to being a father, GRAMMY-nominated bluegrass artist Tony Kamel turns the chaos of new parenthood into a head-bopping time. Out the gate, "Makin' It Work" hits you with an excuse to tap your feet.
Although the lyrics are plucked from his own crazy experience, they are deeply relatable to everyone. These days, it feels like everyone is simply 'making it work' amid the madness and chaos of life. "Makin' it work, ain't that the way till you're deep in the dirt," is such a strong line that's somehow now fun to listen to.
With Noah Jeffries on the fiddle and Kym Warner on the electric mandolin, it's difficult not to have a good time.
"Makin' It Work" will be the leading single on his upcoming album, We're All Gonna Live, which is planned to be released on April 18.
You can listen to "Makin' It Work" below. It's also out on streaming platforms.
"Makin' It Work" Works For Me
I've only recently stepped into the country scene from sitting comfortably in the power metal camp. So it's no wonder that the bouncy and punchy beat speaks to me. I'm also a sucker for a song that can get me physically moving, so it was a winner from the get-go.
The many moving parts perfectly present Kamel's frantic mental space. When making the new single, Tony Kamel channeled the chaotic energy he recently experienced in life.
"Simply put, I was reflecting on adjusting to parenthood, both as a musician and in general," Tony Kamel said in a statement shared with WOC. "It's a lot of finagling and, kind of, barely figuring things out."
I'm personally looking forward to his upcoming album. Although I am technically getting paid to write this piece, I'm not being paid to be nice about it. I just think it's cool, and want others out there to enjoy it too.
