In an incredibly depressing shift, anyone with a career or plan on getting into meteorology just faced a massive hurdle. Allen Media Group announced plans to shift all local weather coverage towards the Weather Channel. Consequently, your meteorologist at your local news station will likely lose their job if they haven't already. 100 have been impacted so far and now we're seeing a lot of them sign off for the final time.

Recently, two meteorologists in Terre Haute, Indiana, Patrece Dayton and Kevin Orpurt, appeared on air for the final time. There, things got pretty emotional as you might expect. "Many of you may already know, but tonight is our last broadcast here at News 10. Kevin and I have come into your home for decades," the female meteorologist Patrece says. "For those of you who don't know, both of our positions are being eliminated here at WTHI-TV. The television news business in general is changing nationwide and budget cuts are happening everywhere."
Local Indiana Meteorologist Tears Up Live As She Signs Off For The Last Time
Kevin Orput keeps his composure during this exchange. However, he delivers some pretty devastating lines as he tries to speak for himself and the whole crew. Ultimately, Orput wishes there was another reality where they could've finished their time differently. "We had both hoped to go out on our own terms to celebrate, but that's not the case," the meteorologist says. "As you can see on the evening news each night, we are a close family here at News 10. We laugh, sometimes we argue like an old married couple and we've cried together. We've gone through so much."
Dayton finally cracks after an emotional send-off, knowing that it would be her last time on the broadcast. "For the final time, goodnight and sleep well," the meteorologist says with tears in her eyes.
