Sharing the news to Instagram, McBride posted a picture of her father. In the caption of the post, she shared a lengthy and emotional tribute to him, speaking of their shared memories and activities. Schiff passed on Tuesday, and she shared the news yesterday.
"I really don't have the right words," she began with, "Our hearts are broken."
McBride went on to talk about her father, and how grateful she is for their shared time together.
"He was a third-generation family farmer. He was also the leader of our family band, The Schiffters," she wrote. Although McBride is a famous country singer, she can thank her father for fostering her passion.
"He taught me so much about music, about life, about how to treat others."
Martina McBride Kept In Contact With Her Father Every Day
McBride's mother passed away 5 years ago, and she and her father have called every night since. "Over 1800 conversations that I am so grateful I had," she said of their constant communication. They would also sometimes call during the day.
They kept in touch about cooking and gardening especially, as they sent messages, photos, and videos of their recent accomplishments in the fields.
"He had the kindest blue eyes and a great laugh. So much of who I am came from him. There is so much more I could write, and probably will. Thank you for keeping us in your prayers during this time," she concluded the message.
Such a heartfelt passage that really shows just how infinitely close they were together. I can't imagine the grief she's going through.
Fans took to the comments to show their support.
"I loved your dad! And I love you and am so sorry! We are praying for your family," says one.
"So very sorry, sweet girl. Lifting you & your family up in prayer. His legacy lives in you...." writes another.
"Praying for comfort and peace for you and your family!" wishes one more.
I hope Martina McBride can manage the overwhelming grief she's been feeling.
