Brooke Shields Reveals One Matthew Perry On-Set Antic That Would Get Him Canceled Today

Sometimes, if you're not one of the group from jump, you often end up looking like an outcast. That was the case for Brooke Shields. Recently, she went on an episode of The View where she talked about the behind the scenes on Friends. She played Erika Ford, who interacts with Matt LeBlanc's character as Joey during season 2.

However, despite being a fixture on the show for a spell, she admits that it was very clique-ish. "You go onto a show that's so well-oiled and so successful and I was such a fan, all I wanted was for them to like me," Shields says. "I just wanted to be funny. But I wasn't in the group. They were very tight, they had all these inside jokes."

Additionally, Brooke talks about one strange, problematic inside joke in particular from the late Matthew Perry. "You couldn't do it now, you'd get canceled," she says, "He would run and throw himself on the floor in front of a girl and pretend to look up her skirt. Again, you'd get canceled today."

Brooke Shields Shares Problematic Joke From Matthew Perry on The View

Despite the weird and terrible optics of that joke, Shields was desperate to get Matthew Perry to laugh with her. Consequently, she tried to replicate his joke with her own version. However, Brooke was met with crickets from the rest of the cast initally. "I ran so fast from one end of the stage all the way to the other, threw myself on the ground, and pretended to look up his pant leg," she recalls. "And everybody was quiet and I'm on the floor and I'm like, 'I just suck. I look like a crazy person.'"

"I'm on the floor for what felt like an hour — it was probably one second — and all of a sudden he started laughing and they all started laughing," Brooke adds. "And he said, 'How did you know to do that?' And I said, 'I've just been watching you and I just wanted to say thank you for giving us such humor.' So it was really sweet."
