Relationships can be exhausting because you're constantly all over each other. There's hardly any space to be your own person sometimes. You're always on call to be present and it's not easy to be on point at a moment's notice. It doesn't help if the other person is overbearingly clingy too. One thing you forsake to battle some of the terrible loneliness of being single is independence. For a while, actress Kat Dennings agreed. Her relationships felt intimidating because she liked the liberty to do her own thing. She owes this perspective to one person in particular: Whoopi Goldberg.

Recently, Dennings went on an episode of The View to discuss her life and her new sitcom with Tim Allen Shifting Gears. There, she responds to a question from Sara Haines on the panel about her marriage to rocker Andrew W.K. in 2023. When talking about life before she tied the knot, Kat loathed being in relationships and dating around. "It's the worst, isn't it? It's terrible. I was in a few long relationships and I tried to date a little bit, it was just a nightmare," she laments.

Then, Kat references a Whoopi Goldberg quote to express the weariness of the dating scene. It's here we get the underlying reason of why these relationships exhausted her so deeply. "I actually live by a quote from you, Whoopi. Correct me if this is the wrong quote, but I did look it up to make sure: I don't want somebody in my house," Dennings quips.
Nowadays, Kat doesn't share this cynicism about romance and marriage anymore. After meeting her hubby, she didn't mind sharing the same space all the time. "Those [were] my feelings towards marriage in general, until I met my husband. And now I like him in my house. I want him in my house!" Dennings says.
