Lainey Wilson Talks The Staying Power Of Female Artists In Country Music

Lainey Wilson exists in country music as one of its biggest and most prominent stars. She's one of the hardest workers within Nashville and it's been paying dividends for her. Wilson's essentially being ushered in as the next generation's Reba McEntire after receiving her cosign. Moreover, she's even spotlighting her personality and trying out hosting duties like Reba. However, her journey to this point doesn't come without an abundance of obstacles either.

None of this is promised given the nature of the country music industry. The genre has received its fair share of criticism with how women are treated in Nashville. Moreover, the stars are usually dominated by men, leaving a small lane for acts like Reba, Dolly Parton, and Miranda Lambert. Lainey Wilson's success puts her in rarified air. It might even allow for a shift within the industry.

Lainey Wilson Gets Candid About Female Recognition in Country

Recently, Wilson spoke with PEOPLE Magazine on the heels of her huge album Whirlwind. That album essentially cements her as the big name woman in country music. She notes how hard it is to break through as a woman in the industry. However, Lainey also notes that the difficulty allows for these women to not exist as flashes in the pan. "There is a shift happening, I will say. I hear more female artists being talked about. I still feel like we're not completely there. But here's the thing about the girls, when they break through - because it is so hard to break through - they can stand the test of time," she says.

Is Lainey particularly worried about the competition? That doesn't seem to be the case. Rather, she seems to be a staunch supporter of all the women bursting through the industry. ""The ones that are breaking through right now, they're going to be around for a long time. It's good to see the girls coming through," Wilson states.
