There is rarely a dull moment on The View. The co-hosts have spirited discussions about everything and everyone under the sun. The latest controversial pronouncement from one of them came from Ana Navarro-Cardenas. As you can imagine, the ladies had loads to talk about regarding President Joe Biden's recent pardon of his son, Hunter. Opinions on that have been all over the map, and The View was no exception. However, Ana took it a step further on social media and claimed that an earlier Chief Exec, Woodrow Wilson, pardoned his brother-in-law, a man she said was named Hunter deButts, per dailymail.co.uk. Hmmm...

Turns out, though, that Wilson did not reportedly have any such person as a brother-in-law. Ana apparently relied on information from ChatGPT. Its accuracy is not always perfect. Now, her critics are gleefully piling on.
Ana Navarro-Cardenas Made The Now-Discredited Claim About Woodrow Wilson On X
She Cited Other Past Presidential Pardons Of Their Family Members
Per the outlet, Ana "claimed the 28th president pardoned deButts, who [she] described as his brother-in-law. No records show Wilson had a relative under that name, an online sleuth discovered when he went on a deep dive on X."
In her post on X, dated December 2, 2024, Ana mentions previous presidents' pardons for their family members. She wrote, "Woodrow Wilson pardoned his brother-in-law, Hunter deButts." Then she noted Bill Clinton's pardon of his brother, Roger. Also, Trump's pardon of his son-in-law's dad, Charles Kushner, who has been chosen as the United States' next Ambassador to France. Ana ended her post by writing, "But tell me again how Joe Biden 'is setting precedent?'"
Ana Got Quick Pushback About The Wilson Statement
Someone Checked Out The Existence Of 'Hunter deButts' And Found No Substantiation
A person named Zach Parkinson posted this: "45,000 likes on [Navarro-Cardenas'] post, but no one seems to have noticed that the first example is fake. There's (unsurprisingly) no record of Woodrow Wilson having a brother-in-law named 'Hunter deButts.'"
The outlet observed, "Since then, a Community Note has been added to [Ana's] post, stating: 'There is no evidence that Woodrow Wilson had a brother-in-law named 'Hunter DeButts.'"
Ana added a note that said, "Hey Twitter sleuths, thanks for taking the time to provide context. Take it up with Chat GPT..."

People Pounced On Her For It
Per foxnews.com, "'This Hunter deButts thing is really one of the all-time funniest things to happen in media and on this platform in awhile. That she works for ABC News makes it even better,' journalist Glenn Greenwald wrote on X."
"The funniest thing isn't that ChapGPT hallucinated a Woodrow Wilson pardon. It's that a robot spat out the name 'Hunter deButts' and none of this sounded out of place to Ana Navarro,...." That barb came from T. Becket Adams, National Journalism Center Program Director.
