A 95-year-old WWII vet got an incredible gift from a kind-hearted police officer in Fort Worth earlier this week.
In the middle of a heat wave, Julius Hatley's window unit and central air broke down. Without any way of repairing it himself, he reached out to the Fort Worth Police Department for help.
Officer William Margolis and Officer Christopher Weir responded to the call and instantly felt compassion for Hatley.
"When we got there around 8:30 am his house was 95 to 90 degrees already," Officer William Margolis told CBS 11.
They quickly decided that they had to do something to help Hatley deal with the unbearable heat.
Margolis and Weir headed to the local Home Depot to purchase a window unit for his home. When workers at the store heard their story, they offered up $150 to help out Mr. Hatley.
News of their kind act quickly spread across town. It wasn't long before more people stepped up to help out their neighbor. Several offered to help fix his air conditioner, paint his house and even provide him with groceries every week.
Naturally, Mr. Hatley is grateful for all the support he is receiving. Often, vets aren't able to get the help they need and wind up in dire circumstances as they age. Luckily for Mr. Hatley, he has a couple of officers who are dedicated to making sure his last years are safe, comfortable and happy.
