We’re about to teach you how to be the MacGyve of grilling.
1. Grill your fish over lemons, limes or oranges.
When you grill over citrus fruits it intensifies the flavor of your fish, according to Country Living.
2. Make a stick-proof grill.
Forget fancy stick-proof sprays from the store. Simply rubbing half an onion on the grates of your grill can prevent food from sticking when you’re perfecting your barbecue.
3. Put a beer can inside your chicken.
It turns out beer isn’t just for drinking. Inserting a helf-empty beer can into the cavity of the chicken gives you a fall-off-the bone, finger-licking good barbecue chicken that’s moist on the inside and crisp on the oustide. Follow Food Network’s recipe for Beer Can Chicken to have the barbecue all the neighbors will be talking about.
4. Spiral cut your hot dogs.
If you want to take your hot dogs to the next level, then check out Caramel Potatoes‘ instructions for dogs that are sure to wow your friends at your barbecue. The spiral cut allows the inside of the hot dog to caramelize, intensifying the flavor from the grill. The cuts also make more space for stuffing condiments in between the buns.
5. Make a fire-starter with an egg carton.
Don’t just pitch your old egg cartons in the trash when you’re finished with them. Use your cardboard-only egg cartons to make a DIY fire-starter that’s easily transportable.
6. Use this easy hamburger hack.
Ziploc introduced us to this simple method for serving up hamburgers on the grill. Put all your hamburger meat into a plastic bag with a seal. Then, use a skewer to section the meat into serving-sized squares. Next, put the patties in the freezer and grill when you’re ready. This is a simple method for cutting your hamburger patties into the perfect serving size and it makes less of a mess.
7. Make a “banana boat of gooey goodness.”
According to 12 Tomatoes, there’s more to grilling than just chicken, ribs and burgers. Show your dinner guests that you know your way around the grill by grilling up dessert too. Hollow out a banana and fill the peel with your favorite treats, like peanut butter, marshmallows, nuts and chocolate chips.
8. When in doubt, just add bacon.
