'9-1-1' Star and 3 Others Reportedly Injured During Filming

The '9-1-1' star as well as three stunt workers were reported to have suffered notable injuries whilst working on the newest season.

If the popular show 9-1-1 is known for anything, it's for being pretty darn action-packed. Every episode seems to break the mold in terms of having something crazy happen. This means there are a lot of stunts taking place - naturally.

Naturally, that means things can go wrong every now and then. And that's exactly what has happened in the past few weeks. As reported by Deadline, 9-1-1 star Oliver Stark, as well as three others, have been reportedly injured during stunts.

An initial report about the injuries explained that the three members of the 9-1-1 crew were injured "to varying degrees". A source for the report explained that Oliver Stark, who plays Evan "Buck" Buckley on the Fox/ABC show, had experienced a broken ankle whilst performing a stunt involving a "firefighter swinging from a car to a fire truck".

Stark required surgery on his ankle. However, as the incident happened in late August, he is now reportedly back up and running for filming on the show. Per the report, "production continued amid his recovery".

However, he wasn't the only one to be injured. A stunt double also reportedly sprained his ankle on the same scene - but denied medical intervention at the scene. Another stunt worker also injured their arm due to a set piece which "had jaffed metal on it".

And, finally, a second stunt performer ended up being hospitalized. This happened following an "awkward landing" on a set piece, which led to them being diagnosed with a "broken rib and minor compressed lung".

What Does the Actor's Union Say About Stunts Like on '9-1-1'?

SAG-AFTRA, the actor's union, is pretty clear on the policies and procedures that are meant to prevent injuries like this. Here are the "stunt coordinator standards" that are expected to be upheld:

  •  A stunt coordinator does not solicit or encourage any performer to violate any of the terms and conditions of any SAG-AFTRA agreement, including provisions relating to gender equity and diversity in casting.
  • A stunt coordinator reports all violations of SAG-AFTRA agreements committed by production to SAG-AFTRA.
  •  A stunt coordinator takes any appropriate actions necessary to ensure the safety of performers or others on the set.
  •  A stunt coordinator engages proactively with the appropriate personnel in other departments, inclusive of but not limited to AD's, Special Effects, Props etc., regarding the safety of performers.
  • A stunt coordinator strives to ensure that all performers, as appropriate to the scene, are present at all production safety meetings.

It is unclear whether these were followed, and there has not been any official word regarding this. In any case, we hope that everyone recovers and feels better soon.
