A man in his 80s allegedly fired a weapon at a Texas High School band competition over the weekend, injuring one.

The incident occurred on February 1 at around 6:00 pm at Pasadena Memorial High School. According to a press release by the Pasadena Police Department, the suspect, Dennis Erwin Brandl Jr, allegedly entered the school via doors on the south side while a band competition was in full swing. Brandl wasn't on the premises for long before discharging a small-caliber weapon.
Per a report by People, the shot hit a man in his mid-20s in the shoulder. The outlet alleges that the victim was a percussion technical consultant for the Angleton Independent School District. Fortunately, he is in a stable condition in hospital.
The media release explains that a brave citizen tackled the alleged shooter to the ground. With the help of others, they were able to disarm Brandl and detain him until the police arrived. According to the New York Post, The Pearland Independent School District said some parents were among the group that disarmed the shooter. They "bravely intervened, successfully subduing the individual and detaining them until law enforcement arrived." a statement from the district explains.
The New York Post clarifies that no motive has been determined, and the shooter has no affiliation with the competition.
The Alleged Shooter At The School Reportedly Feared For His Life
The Pasadena Police Department released an updated statement on Sunday, February 2. While it provides some insight, it also poses more questions.
The shooter reportedly told police that he was being chased by someone and feared he and his wife were going to be killed. Brandl allegedly left his house in Spring and ended up in Pasadena. He stopped at the school, entered the building, and shot someone. The media release reiterates that the shooter and victim do not know each other.
The release concludes, 'The Harris County District Attorney's Office has accepted charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. At the time of this media update, no bond has been given to the suspect. He is awaiting transfer to the Harris County Jail.'
