When the girl's school bus noticed that she was not on board during drop-off, the driver called the school to report her missing. On investigation, the young girl was found in a classroom with multiple stab wounds beside her teacher.
The 8-year-old girl was rushed to the hospital, but the wounds were too grievous and she died in the emergency room. She had been stabbed in the neck and body repeatedly by the teacher. The teacher was also suffering a stab wound in the neck, but this is suspected to be self-inflicted.
The teacher admitted to stabbing the child. She confessed that she had purchased the weapon before the class, intending to attack a child, and then kill herself. Who the student was was irrelevant to her. She simply went for the last child to leave.
South Korean Teacher Was A Known Risk
The teacher responsible for the senseless attack on the young 8-year-old girl had previously requested six months' leave for depression. However, in spite of showing suicidal tendencies during her leave, a doctor deemed her well enough to return to work. Despite being a risk to herself and the students, she was allowed back into the facility.
However, she was not permitted to work alongside students. At one point, she had attacked a fellow teacher, putting them in a headlock. She had also been instructed to sit beside the principal's desk, so they could observe her.
On the day of the attack, two officials visited due to the attack on the other member of staff. Despite the teacher's clear instabilities, she was still kept in the school. It was on the same day that the teacher premeditated her attack on the innocent student.
She has admitted to the crime, and how she premeditated the attack on the young girl. The teacher went out of her way to purchase and smuggle the weapon she used to stab the 8-year-old to death.
In a statement by the school, they said "I offer my deep condolences to the victim's family who suffered great shock and agony." I feel that if a little more compassion and attention had been given to the clearly unwell teacher, this could have been avoided.
