On November 27, an 8-year-old boy was crushed by a statue at a luxury Arizona resort. He later succumbed to his injuries and died on Thanksgiving.

According to a Phoenix Police Department press release, the "sprite" statue fell on the young boy around 9 am at Arizona Biltmore. He was rushed to the hospital in critical condition and didn't make it.
They added that there is no sign of "foul play" at this time, although they are still investigating. According to Fox 10, investigators are scouring surveillance footage and questioning reps to find any source of blame for the incident.
Fire Captain Todd Keller told the outlet, "Firefighters did an absolutely fabulous job getting this kid in the ambulance and transported to the hospital really quickly." He also added that it's unclear how the statue fell. It's currently unclear what exactly attaches the statues to the pedestals they stand on.
"We don't know what caused this. We don't know what was going on before," he added.
The statues themselves are made of concrete and weigh hundreds of pounds, according to Fox 10.
According to KPNX, the statue inflicted a head injury on the boy.

The resort, Arizona Baltimore, told PEOPLE in a statement that they are "deeply saddened to learn of the family's loss." They "extend [their] heartfelt condolences."
"We wish them peace and respect their right to privacy during this difficult time. Our commitment to providing a safe and secure environment for our guests is paramount and we continue to cooperate fully with all authorities investigating this incident."
"Our top priority is the safety of our guests, and our thoughts are with the family impacted by today's events," they said separately.
Thanksgiving and the holiday season will never be the same again for this family. Losing a loved one in the festive season can be especially hard for some.
The investigation is ongoing, so the nature of this freak accident may be later revealed.
