Footage from security in the area shows the retiree in his car in Buenos Aires. As he prepares to leave the cab of his Toyota Hylux, a car pulls alongside the 78-year-old and a boy jumps out to rob him. Before the car has even come to a stop, he is out, with a gun in the man's face.
But, the old man is ready for them. In seconds he responds by shooting the teen in the chest. He then opened the door and emptied another bullet into his skull. Stepping over the boy who attempted to rob him, the 78-year-old then shoots at the retreating car.
His quick reactions saved him from being robbed but fatally wounded the 15-year-old boy. The two shots, one to the skull and one to the chest, killed the boy instantly.
78-Year-Old Man Will Face No Charges
The prosecutor, Prosecutor Diego Rulli, says that there will be no charges against the man. The footage shows the 78-year-old acting in self-defense against the boy who tried to rob him. He was fully licensed to own the weapon. However, the 15-year-old didn't have a real gun, it turns out.
The footage shows him pointing a pistol at the retiree. But, it was only a replica 22-caliber mini Bersa Thunder. It never posed any threat of harm to the man. He wasn't to know that at the time though, and acted as he saw fit.
His reactions, for an old man, were phenomenally quick. He seems to have his gun and his hand and shooting back at the boy in seconds. He will now have to live with the consequences of the boy's death for the rest of his life.
Police are still on the hunt for the other two people in the van that made its getaway. They have requested anyone with information to come forward. This is the second case of its kind in Buenos Aires this month, with another minor being shot while trying to steal a motorcycle.
