A tragedy has rocked the community of Frankfurt, Illinois.

The incident occurred on Tuesday (September 8). A local school bus hit a 6-year-old girl and claimed her life.
When the 6-year-old Jenna Menias' school was dismissing just before 3:30 on Tuesday afternoon, she was struck by the vehicle. According to a report from CBS, when officers arrived at the scene of the incident, the girl was found "unresponsive."
6-Year-Old Killed in Tragic School Bus Incident
The report adds that first responders on the scene "performed life-saving measures" on the child. They took her to a local hospital to receive medical treatment. But unfortunately, Jenna's injuries were too severe to overcome. She was pronounced dead at the hospital.
There were other students on the school bus at the time of the collision. Thankfully, none of the passengers were hurt. The students were released to their trusted guardian in the aftermath. Following the unfortunate incident, the school released a statement. In the statement, the district noted that they are actively working with the police during their investigation.
"We know that an event of this nature deeply affects our entire school family," the district said in a statement obtained by CBS. "We encourage students who may be feeling worried or upset to reach out to a trusted adult, teacher, social worker, or other member of our school support team. Frankfort School District 157-C and Lincoln-Way Transportation are working together with the Frankfort Police Department and Will County Sheriff's Office as they investigate the situation."
At the time of writing, there is no update on whether the driver will face criminal charges. Following the incident, his employer, Lincoln's Way Transportation, expressed their condolences to the victim's family and everyone else who was impacted.
"Lincoln-Way Transportation is devastated by the tragic accident that occurred in Frankfort yesterday. We express our sincerest condolences to the family during this very difficult time," the company said. "Transportation is working closely with local and state officials on their investigation."
