A recall has been issued on 53,000 cases of Horizon Organic Dairy's shelf-stable 1% chocolate milk.

What Are the Details On the Chocolate Milk Recall?
The company began voluntarily recalling the milk on Aug. 7, in coordination with the Food and Drug Administration. It comes after Horizon received numerous complaints about the product's packaging.
In a statement, the cartons under the recall could be prone to leaks, bloating, or premature spoilage.
As reported by the New York Post, Horizon's head of quality and food safety, Kendra Harrison, said the recall was not due to contamination by allergens, pathogens, or microorganisms.
The company has launched an investigation into the cause of the packaging issue and how to prevent it from happening again.
How to Determine If You Have the Recalled Milk
Customers can determine if they have one of the cartons affected by the recall by checking the packaging for the following information:
- 12-pack (UPC 742365002700) — Best Before/By: 28 JAN 2027; 30 JAN 2027; 31 JAN 2027; 01 FEB 2027; 02 FEB 2027; 03 FEB 2027
- 18-pack (UPC 742365208867) — Best Before/By: 31 JAN 2027; 01 FEB 2027; 02 FEB 2027
Customers are advised to throw out the milk but to keep any packaging information, including the receipt. They can contact Horizon at 888-494-3020 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Central Time, Monday through Friday, to determine whether they are eligible for a refund.
This is not the first recall Horizon has had this year. In March, over 3,500 cases of its 1% DHA Chocolate Organic Lowfat Milk were recalled. A packaging seal issue caused the milk to spoil before its expiration date.
Months ago on Reddit, a user posted a stomach-churning picture of curdled chocolate milk.
They wrote, "In the past few months, I cannot get a box of them without them all coming out like this... Why?! They're not past the expiration date. It's made me incredibly sad, because I used to quick grab a chocolate milk on the way out the door, but now every one I open theres a 60/40 chance my mouth gets filled with chunks. Is there a recall I missed??"
