Michigan police had to disarm a 5-year-old child who answered the door to them holding a loaded handgun. This led to the cops taking two men and a woman into custody on Saturday, January 25. This unexpected encounter could've easily turned sour if the cops at the home in Battle Creek didn't act quickly enough.

The police cadet arrived just before 10 AM at the house on Inn Road to serve a subpoena, according to Battle Creek Police Department. When someone answered the door, it wasn't an adult, but a 5-year-old holding a large kitchen knife. Right as the cops asked the child to get an adult, they allegedly left and returned to the door holding a loaded handgun.

Fortunately, the cadet disarmed the child and there were no injuries. They then called for backup as more officers arrived at the Michigan home. The patrol officers detained two adult men and one adult woman in the residence, transporting them to the police department for questioning.
This wasn't the only child inside the home. Police noticed five children ranging from six months old to eight years old. All were taken to Child Protective Services, although they took one child to a local hospital due to health concerns. They first went to Bronson Battle Creek Hospital and were later transported to a hospital in Kalamazoo.
Now, "officials are pursuing weapon charges and neglect charges," as the statement described. Not only for the handgun situation but for the "deplorable condition of the home." On top of that, one of the men living at the house was arrested for many suspected crimes on January 12. One of them was related to domestic violence.
Wood TV managed to speak with the unidentified father of the woman police detained. He explained that his daughter was living with the father of one of the children. Meanwhile, the other adult male was the man's friend who also lived there.
The father described the living situation as "difficult." Allegedly, his daughter had called the police earlier after someone beat her in the home. He said that she was just a "single mother with five kids trying to do the best that she can." The father also revealed how the baby's dad threw all the kids' stuff out, forcing them to "scrape through the snow" to find them.
"I love my daughter, I love my grandkids, I want to see everyone back together as a family, that's all," the grandfather admitted.
