Here are five new country and Americana songs we have on heavy rotation.
Will Hoge, "Little Bit of Rust"
We've already sung the praises of Will Hoge and his brilliant songwriting, but "Little Bit of Rust" from Hoge's latest release Anchors may be his best yet. The song, which features backing vocals from Sheryl Crow, is an ode to sticking through the hard times to make something beautiful in the long run.
Ashley McBryde, "Tired of Being Happy"
Ashley McBryde's next full length album can't get here soon enough. The Arkansas native recently released her latest single "Tired of Being Happy" and it's every bit as stone cold country as we've come to expect from the up and comer. The song follows a woman telling a recently married old flame to keep her in mind if his marriage goes south. "I've never wrecked a home but don't put it past me," McBryde sings in an outlaw wail. "If you ever get tired of being happy, give me a call."
My Politic, "Bored Young Ghost"
My Politic is a six-piece roots band born in Missouri and currently based in Nashville. "Bored Young Ghost," from their debut studio album 12 Kinds of Lost, is a gorgeous song about desperation and loneliness in your hometown.
Hiss Golden Messenger, "Domino (Time Will Tell)"
Hiss Golden Messenger, an alt-country band out of North Carolina, are gearing up to release their album Hallelujah Anyhow on Sept. 22. Last week, the band released two songs from the upcoming album. "Domino (Time Will Tell)" is an irresistible roots rocker that sounds like the best of 1970s radio.
Kaitlin Butts, "Bored If I Don't"
Oklahoma-native Kaitlin Butts is poised to set the Red Dirt and Texas country scene on fire. Her 2015 album Same Hell, Different Devil is a collection of stripped-down songs of love, whiskey and wild, outspoken women. Her latest, "Bored If I Don't," is about a restless wife caught between temptation and vows. Kaitlin Butts will perform at the 2017 AmericanaFest in Nashville next week.
