The father of 4-year-old Alan Marcelo Salas-Garcia was using a crosswalk on Raymond Street. His son was sitting in the trailer attached to the back of his bike. Running a red light, a Dodge Charger collided with the bike and trailer before hopping a curb.
The car eventually came to a stop on grass, and the driver escaped on foot. However, the result was that the 4-year-old boy was killed and two others were injured. Another car was hit by the out-of-control car.
Night Watch Captain Don Weilhammer spoke to Fox 59 about the tragic event. ""The driver of the other vehicle that was struck by the Charger had the green light. So, the bicyclist was well out, almost to the median crossing it," he told the outlet. "So, it wasn't a thing where they were trying to beat the light. It had been a solid red for quite some time, enough time for the light to turn green. And the other car was obviously out in the intersection as well."
2 Injured and 1 Dead With No Sign Of Driver
Alan, the 4-year-old boy hit by the car, was pronounced dead at the scene. His father and the driver of the other vehicle involved in the incident were both taken to hospital. Both are in stable condition, as confirmed by the family. However, the devastation of their young son's death will be massive.
The driver of the out-of-control car escaped on foot. A full search is underway, but so far nobody has been found. No arrest has been made, the police have confirmed. "Slow down, we have two families that are definitely going to be affected by this tragedy," Don Weilhammer said. "It all could've been avoided if they weren't speeding and hadn't disregarded the red light."
The family of the 4-year-old boy has been rocked by the death of their brother and son. His 17-year-old brother spoke to news outlets about the tragedy. "I still can't believe he's gone," he told The Star.
