The school bus drove on the I-195 in Wall Township, Monmouth County, on the way to school around 7:30 AM. The bus was on its way to Communications High School before the incident. It was traveling eastbound near Exit 35-B at Atlantic Avenue, according to CBS, when it collided with a GMC van.

After the impact, it fell on its side, and the crash left the eastbound lanes closed for hours. Meanwhile, the school bus driver and three children suffered from minor injuries, as per the New York Post. Unfortunately, the collision left one child with serious injuries.

Soon after the crash, first responders transported the five wounded individuals to a local hospital for treatment. Luckily, the driver of the white GMC did not have any injuries. The crash dealt most of the damage to the school bus.

Images from CBS via PIX11's helicopter showed extensive damage to the bus's roof, windows, and rear door. The collision did some serious damage to the front of the van, although it was still upright. With the closed lanes to clean up the aftermath, it caused some heavy traffic Thursday morning. By now, the roads have cleared.

In response to the terrifying accident, the Monmouth County Vocational School District sent out a statement. "We understand that this may cause concern, and we want to reassure you that student safety remains our top priority," it said. "We are working closely with authorities and the transportation company to review the incident and ensure all safety measures are in place."

We're still unsure how this accident happened, and we don't know which driver was responsible. We will have to wait for the investigation to continue for the police to unveil any more details. The good news is that it wasn't a fatal accident, and hopefully, the one most critically injured are recovering smoothly.
