A recall of GreenWise Organic frozen blueberries and whole mixed berries has been placed under the FDA's highest risk classification list. The recall comes after the berries were linked to a potential E. Coli outbreak that has left four people hospitalized (via The New York Post).

FDA Recall on Blueberries Reaches Dangerous Level

Publix, the retailer for the recalled blueberries, sold the product across eight states. Those states are: Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia.

"Based on the public health officials' product traceback and epidemiological information, Publix is now taking further action out of an abundance of caution to recall all lots of GreenWise Organic Whole Blueberries and Whole Mixed Berries," the grocer said in a statement (via PEOPLE).

A person can go several days before experiencing symptoms of E. Coli. But the symptoms can be severe. They include stomach cramps, diarrhea, fever, nausea and vomiting. In addition, certain forms of the infection can lead to bloody diarrhea and progress to more "serious complications."

Of course, the latest recall led to an outpouring of reactions on social media.

"It's like if we had a working government and not a moron running HHS, we would have food we can eat," one user wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.

"Glad the FDA escalated the warning level so people can clear out their freezers in time," a second user chimed in.

"The way I put frozen blueberries in literally everything I eat, I am not okay," a third user remarked.

This report comes just days after a report of a Salmonella outbreak that caused "at least 110 people" to fall ill in Minnesota. Due to a bad batch of jalapeños from Chipotle and other Mexican-style restaurants. In addition, shredded lettuce from Taco Bell was named as the catalyst of the Cyclospora parasite outbreak. A virus that can lead to explosive diarrhea.
