3-Year-Old Bitten by Rattlesnake Hiding Under Amazon Package

Snakes are creatures that can hide in the weirdest places. And they are stealthly too. So there is really no such thing as being too careful where they are concerned. Unfortunately, a 3-year-old child was bitten by a rattlesnake that was beneath an Amazon package, of all places. Of course, the little girl had absolutely no idea at all that the dangerous snake was lurking there.

Per the New York Post, "Addy, a 3-year-old girl, was bitten on her left hand in Santa Clarita as she excitedly ran to pick up a gift in an Amazon package." The package was a padded envelope. Unbeknownst to the child, a Southern Pacific rattlesnake was under it.

Addy Was Rushed to a Hospital for Treatment

In a GoFundMe posted by Addy's dad, Manuel Barajas, he described the horrifying accident. He wrote in part, "Recently, an Amazon package was dropped over our gate onto the yard. Lynn [Addy's mom] had told Addy about the package, and when Addy saw it, she excitedly ran to pick up her gift. Tragically, a southern pacific rattlesnake was hiding under the brown padded envelope and bit Addy's left hand."

He continued, "Lynn rushed Addy to meet the fire department and ambulance at a nearby grocery store parking lot. Addy received her first dose of antivenom at the local hospital, but had to be transferred to another hospital with a pediatric ICU."

The Financial Burden of Addy's Medical Costs Is "Overwhelming"

The GoFundMe for Addy has raised $7,060 of a goal of $16.000 so far. Dad Manuel Barajas explained why the money is direly needed. "Now, we are facing significant medical bills from Addy's hospital stay, antivenom treatments, and the pediatric ICU. On top of that, I lost about a week of work to be with Lynn and Addy during this crisis, which has added to our financial strain. We are doing everything we can to support Addy's healing, but the costs are overwhelming."

Hopefully, little Addy is well on her way to making a full and speedy recovery from her scary snake encounter. The medical treatment she got was apparently a success.
