According to a report by ClickOrlando, the incident occurred at around 3:16 AM on Sunday at State Road 19, south of Saint Florian Lane in Lake County. The Florida Highway Patrol confirmed that a 2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee was traveling northbound when its driver failed to negotiate a left corner. The vehicle then ran off the road to the right. There were four women in the car at the time. Kaneisha Lewis, 32, and Aqutavia Pew, 28, were passengers alongside an unidentified 26-year-old. Shaykaylah Mathis, 30, of Mount Dora, was the driver. Emergency Services pronounced Mathis, Lewis, and Pew dead at the scene. The unidentified passenger is in critical condition in hospital.
Authorities believe the Jeep Cherokee collided with a pole on the roadside before rolling several times. The impact ejected the driver and all three passengers from the vehicle, leading troopers to believe that nobody in the jeep was wearing a seatbelt.
A Video On Social Media Allegedly Shows What Happened Before The Crash
A video posted by The Neighborhood Talk on Instagram allegedly reveals compiled footage from the vehicle occupants' Facebook Stories. The passengers reportedly posted these stories moments before the crash. The video shows the women enjoying themselves in the car, drinking alcohol, and singing along to music. One clip appears to show the driver with an open glass bottle in her hand. The camera also pans toward the Jeep's speedometer, where it climbs to 116MPH. Other cuts show the vehicle speed at 89 MPH and 92MPH. One woman can be heard shouting, "Hit the dash" and "Running red lights."
Many comments on the post declare it a 'wake-up call' while the top-rated reply is simply 'I wouldn't even do 116 on that road sober.'
Per a report by People, the outlet reportedly asked the Florida Highway Patrol about the video, but they didn't provide any information citing an ongoing investigation.
