John Prine, Vince Gill Among Nominees for Songwriters Hall of Fame

John Prine, Vince Gill and Tom T. Hall are among the 2019 nominees for the Songwriters Hall of Fame.

Gill and Prine are among those nominated in the performing songwriter category. The artists are joined by Missy Elliott, Mariah Carey, Mike Love, Jimmy Cliff, Jeff Lynne, Cat Stevens, John Prine, Lloyd Price, Tommy James and the Eurythmics (Annie Lennox and Dave Stewart).

Among those nominated in the non-performing songwriter category is legendary country songwriters Dean Dillon, who's written more than 50 songs for George Strait, and Tom T. Hall, the songwriting genius behind "Harper Valley PTA" and many more classic country songs. Jerry Fuller, Roger Nichols, Dallas Austin, P.F. Sloan and Steve Barri, Russell Brown and Irwin Levine, Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty, Dean Pitchford and Michael Gore, Dan Penn and Spooner Oldham, Bobby Hart and Tommy Boyce are also nominated in the category.

On Nov. 28, Gill will join wife Amy Grant at the Ryman Auditorium for their long-running Christmas at the Ryman residency. The shows will run for 12 nights, ending on Dec. 23. The country star recently released Vince Gill:The Christmas Collection a limited-edition, double vinyl set featuring his 1993 Christmas album Let There Be Peace on Earth on green vinyl and 1998's Breath of Heaven on red vinyl sold exclusively at Cracker Barrel stores nationwide.

Prine was recently nominated for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's Class of 2019. The folk legend is a first time nominee for the honor. Prine released his most recent album The Tree of Forgiveness earlier this year. Next year, the singer-songwriter will host the All the Best Fest, an all inclusive country music festival and vacation in the Dominican Republic, featuring Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit, Nathaniel Rateliff & the Night Sweats, Iris Dement, I'm With Her, Amanda Shires, Paul Thorn, Tyler Childers and Gretchen Peters.
