"There have been five reported minor injuries among DPA students," the statement reads. "Two of these students have been transported to a local hospital for further evaluation."

According to WTVY, paramedics arrived at the scene after the DPA's roof fell on top of five students.

Both the Dothan Fire Department and the Dothan Police Department assessed the damage. Moreover, they ensured the residents' safety at the scene, as per the statement. At the time, parents and guardians were instructed at the time to head to the Doug Tew Recreation Center to check on the DPA students.

Severe Weather Event Damage

The City of Dothan Government also confirmed that further damage in Dothan was caused as a result of the weather event.

"In addition to structural damage, approximately 3,000 Dothan Utilities customers are currently without power," the statement reads. "Utility crews are working diligently to restore service as quickly and safely as possible. Residents are urged to stay away from the affected area, as multiple roads are closed and downed power lines pose significant hazards."

Dothan Mayor Mark Saliba called the Dothan community "resilient." He also reassured them that they would recover from the severe weather event.

"We are grateful there have not been any serious injuries reported," Saliba said. "We are proud of our first responders and utility crews who are working tirelessly to ensure the safety of our residents."
