Nicholas Prosper, the 19-year-old British teenager brutally killed his mother and his two underaged siblings on September 2024. He also planned to carry out a mass shooting at his former primary school. On March 19, 2025, Prosper was sentenced to life in prison with a minimum term of 49 years.

According to the BBC, Nicholas Prosper murdered his mother, Juliana Falcon, 48, his brother Kyle, 16, and his sister Giselle, 13, back on September 13, 2024. He was arrested as he made his way to St. Joseph's Catholic Primary School. Prosper would later admit that he planned to carry out a mass shooting that would have killed 34. This included, as per the BBC, his family, children at the school, two teachers, and, finally, himself.
Gruesome Crime
Prosper intended to murder his family while they slept. However, he was confronted by his mother at around 5 a.m., as per the Telegraph. Prosper shot his mother in the head with a shotgun he obtained illegally. He then shot his sister Giselle while she hid in the living room. He then found his little brother in the kitchen who attempted to defend himself with a kitchen knife. After shooting him in the stomach, Prosper stabbed Kyle more than 100 times while he pleaded for his life.
It was the struggle and his family's cries for help that alerted neighbors who called the police. Authorities would later arrest him after he attempted to hide from them. He also hid his shotgun and ammunition at a playing field. In February, Nicholas Prosper pleaded guilty to three counts of murder, purchasing a shotgun without a certificate, possessing a firearm with intent to endanger life, and possessing an article with a blade or point.
Coincidentally, Prosper's sentencing came about on St. Joseph's Day, March 19. Saint Joseph, who is venerated in various Christian traditions, gave the name to the primary school where Prosper planned to carry out his violent mass murder.
Unduly Lenient
In court, Judge Cheem-Grubb addressed Prosper. She told him that he "wanted to be known posthumously as the world's most famous school shooter of the 21st Century."
"The lives of your own mother, and younger brother and sister were to be collateral damage on the way to fulfill your ambition," Cheem-Grubb continued. "You intended to unleash disaster on the community of Luton. Your plans were intelligent, calculating, and selfish."
Judge Cheem-Grubb did not issue a whole life order. After the minimum term of 49 years in prison has been served, Prosper could walk free on parole. The judge cited Prosper's autism spectrum disorder, his lack of previous convictions, and his age as reasons for her ruling.
As per the Telegraph, Kieran Mullan, a shadow justice minister, contacted Attorney General Lord Hermer to increase Prosper's sentencing. Mullan asked Lord Hermer to refer the sentencing to the Court of Appeal as he considered it "unduly lenient."
"Killing three people including two children is the gravest of crimes. If we don't give criminals like this whole life orders what are they for?" Mullan said. The Attorney General now has 28 days to decide whether he will refer the sentence to the Court of Appeal. Only then will the sentence be determined to be "unduly lenient" or not.
Primer Minister Keir Starmer's spokesperson issued a statement following Prosper's sentencing.
"Our thoughts are with those who lost their lives and the wider community who were affected by this," the spokesperson said. "The case has exposed some deep and longstanding weaknesses in the private sale of firearms and we are urgently looking at how we can tighten those controls."
