They identified the 16-year-old girl as Cole at the hospital, then pronounced her dead after she succumbed to her injuries. She was a sophomore student at Millard West High School, as the public school confirmed.

On the other hand, the Ford driver was 32-year-old Christopher Luke. Luckily, they managed to treat his injuries at the hospital, and doctors expect him to survive. Police are continuing the investigation to find out how the crash happened.

Since the announcement of Cole's death, classmates and friends put together a memorial for her. The memorial display had flowers, a touching way to remember Cole.

One sophomore from Millard West named Miley Blue recalled how amazing a friend Cole was. "She was the best friend I could ask for," said Blue. "She was so funny she was a perfect person. She has a beautiful soul. She just lit up a room every time she came in."

Blue couldn't remember a single person who didn't like Cole. "No one ever disliked Ellie. She was just a happy, happy person," Blue continued.

Other than her best friend, Millard West's principal, Dr. Greg Tiemann, shared a statement concerning Cole's tragic death. "Ellie was a kind, joyful person who gave so much of herself to others," Said Tiemann. "As a member of the Principal's Council and Show Choir, she was always eager to share her voice and make a difference."

Everyone who described Cole remembered her for her kindness and generosity. "Ellie greeted everyone with a smile and had a special way of making people feel seen—whether it was saying hello in the hallway or helping new students feel at home at Millard West," the principal continued.
