We all know Carrie Underwood is known for her incredible vocal abilities and strong stage presence.
What you may not know is that Underwood knew how to impress a crowd long before she stepped onto the American Idol stage.
This rare footage above shows a 14-year-old Underwood as she performed at the Miss Westark Pageant in Fort Smith, Ark. Although at first this younger version of Underwood seems a bit shy, it only takes a few moments to feel the fierce emotion that she channels into her cover of Martina McBride's 1997 hit, "Broken Wing".
I imagine there were more than a few dropped jaws as she hit each difficult note with an ease that usually comes from years of vocal training and practice.
She may have ditched the glittery dress and braces long ago, but Underwood hasn't lost the sparkle that made her stand out during this memorable career moment.
