For more than five decades, Burrows was one of the most influential and beloved directors in television history. As a legendary director, mentor, and creative force, he helped shape generations of comedy and brought immeasurable joy to audiences around the world."
Furthermore, the statement noted, "Over the course of his unparalleled career, Burrows directed more than 1,000 episodes of television and was instrumental in creating some of the most iconic series ever produced, including The Mary Tyler Moore Show, Taxi, Cheers, Frasier, Friends, Will & Grace, and The Big Bang Theory, among many others,"
Burrows Was Also Remembered for His Profound Humanity and Decency
He was incredibly talented, but also deeply considerate. His family's statement mentioned Burrows" "kindness, generosity, and unwavering belief in the people around him." Perhaps that trait was what always brought out the very best in those he worked with.
One of the giants James Burrows crossed paths with early in his career was Mary Tyler Moore. Per the outlet, "Burrows wrote to Moore to ask if she had any work for him...." He was then brought onboard as a director by Moore's production company, MTM Enterprises. He worked on The Bob Newhart Show and Mary Tyler Moore. Those choice assignments led to his involvement with other hit shows such as Rhoda, Laverne & Shirley, and Phyllis. His brilliant career was thus launched.
