1 in 50 Men Believe They Can Outrun A Champion Racehorse, And I'm One Of Them

Ask 100 men if they think they could beat a racehorse in a footrace and 2 of them would be bold enough to say they think they could. I might be overestimating myself, but I count myself among them, even if it's only in my mind.

The research was conducted by Freebets ahead of the upcoming Grand National. It was amazing to see just how many men actually thought they could outpace a racehorse. Now, I am fully kidding myself when I say I think I could beat one on the ground. But in my imagination, I could probably keep pace with a cheetah in a 50-meter sprint.

Statistics like this always crack me up. Not long ago, a survey was done by YouGov asking people if they thought that, with air traffic control, they could land a small plane. If we take only the male test group, 50% said they would be able to do it.

The confidence of men in their abilities is the reason we, as the human race, have achieved everything we have. No other animal looks at the tallest, coldest, steepest mountain and decides to climb it for no other reason than that they can.

Beating A Racehorse In A Footrace Is Just Typical Health Delusion

Bearing in mind that the fastest racehorse ever recorded was 40 mph, and Usain Bolt only pulls out 27.8 mph, we men are a little delusional. But we can dream. Aside from horses, a lot of the people surveyed felt they could outrun a few other animals, too.

There has even been a rumour floating around the internet that 95% of adults over 30 won't ever sprint again in their lives. I don't know how true that is, but it doesn't bode well for a man vs racehorse showdown. Since reading that, I have made sure to have a good 100-meter blast whenever I can.

Men are notorious for overestimating themselves. But that's no bad thing. There is nothing worse than a defeatist attitude. It's always best to tackle everything with the idea of winning. Starting out with a losing mindset already puts you in last place.

Now, where can I find a racehorse? I have a score to settle.
