A shocking new report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reveals that specific types of laminate flooring may increase your risk of developing cancer.
Lumber Liquidators, the largest flooring retailer in the United States, has recently come under fire for selling laminate with high levels of formaldehyde. According to the CDC’s latest research, homeowners who have select versions of the company’s flooring in their homes have an estimated risk of cancer that is 6-30 cases per 100,000 people. This figure is three times higher than its original calculations released last year. Along with an increased risk of cancer, researchers found those exposed to the floors for extended periods of time may develop respiratory issues, including nose, throat and eye irritations.

“We strongly stress taking steps to reduce exposures, which should alleviate respiratory and eye, nose and throat irritation,” the center recommends in their report. “These steps should also reduce the cancer risk.”
According to USA Today, Lumber Liquidators halted their sales of China-made laminates after rumors that their imported flooring had high levels of carcinogens. The company currently sells $120 million in flooring each year across the United States and Europe.
