It looks like Chick-fil-A is jumping on one of the biggest health food crazes in the country. If you guessed kale, you’d be right.
The restaurant is planning on adding a kale and broccolini salad with a maple vinaigrette dressing to their menu.
This is good news for kale lovers, but bad news for those who love the coleslaw. The chain will be knocking coleslaw off the menu to make room for their new, healthy side.
On Jan. 18, 2016, you’ll be able to swap out waffle fries for a kale salad for just $0.94 –significantly cheaper than side salads at most other fast-food restaurants. In fact, the salad on its own will only be $2.59 for a five-ounce serving and $3.79 for an eight-ounce one. Not too shabby!
Chick-fil-A’s vice president, David Farmer, tells Delish, “We have tested it in several markets, [and] gotten a big thumbs-up from customers and restaurant operators.”
The testing was done in certain markets in California, a state that is obsessed with kale already, so we’re not surprised it was received well.
I applaud the fast-food restaurant for taking the initiative to provide such a healthy option to their customers. I, personally, am not a fan of this menu addition, mainly because when I eat kale I feel like I’m licking blades of bitter grass.
Judge me if you will, but I think I’ll just stick to my lightly fried 12-piece nugget with a side of 10 honey mustards.
