If you travel across the world, you’re sure to stumble upon some unique places of worship. This towering church, shaped like a giant clucking chicken, might be the strangest and most interesting of them all.
At first glance, the massive building looks like the kind of thing you’d see as a roadside attraction along the interstate. Though you may think the church is likely sitting on some southern farmland, you’d be surprised to know it’s actually located in a remote part of Indonesia.
A 67-year-old told locals he built the church after receiving a message from God. The building was originally meant to resemble a dove, but even local residents call it the “chicken church”. Though it has been abandoned for many years and is now covered in graffiti, people still travel across the globe to explore this very unique building.
Will this church inspire a brand new type of chicken-style chapel across the south? Most likely not (and that’s probably for the best), but it’s still funny to imagine.
