There are few beer companies as widely recognized and respected as Budweiser. Many longtime drinkers of the now Belgian-owned company may be surprised by the news that their recognizable red, white and blue cans will no longer sport the Budweiser name.
The company has announced that they will rename their beer to “America” for the coming summer season as a tribute to the country and its culture. The new name is a part of the company’s “America is in Your Hands” campaign, which also includes events to mark this year’s national Fourth of July celebrations, the 100th anniversary of the National Park Service, and the upcoming Olympic and Paralympic Games in Rio.
According to a press release, the new can design that will coincide with the beer’s renaming will feature quotes from “The Star-Spangled Banner,” “America the Beautiful” and the Pledge of Allegiance.
If you are a true Budweiser purist, don’t fret. The beer will once again feature the company’s familiar name and logo at the end of the summer season. If you want to get your hands on one of these special edition beers, you can find them on store shelves beginning May 23. Bottoms up!
