If you’re Carrie Underwood and known for your fit physique, it only seems appropriate to launch a workout apparel company (hence ‘CALIA By Carrie’). If you’re Willie Nelson and are known for singing songs like “Roll Me Up and Smoke Me When I Die,” you launch your own brand of weed called “Willie’s Reserve”.
In an interview with The Daily Beast during SXSW, Nelson divulged plans to not only roll out his own personal brand of weed, but also branded bongs and chain of stores in states where marijuana is legal.
Michael Bowman, a longtime hemp and pot lobbyist who serves as the brand’s spokesperson, revealed more details about Nelson’s motivations for the project to The Daily Beast.
“Willie has spent a lifetime in support of cannabis, both the industrial hemp side and the marijuana side. He wants it to be something that’s reflective of his passion. Ultimately, it’s his. But it was developed by his family, and their focus on environmental and social issues, and in particular this crazy war on drugs, and trying to be a bright light amongst this trail as we’re trying to extract ourselves from the goo of prohibition.”
Bowman also said that there will be movement within the next calendar year, and the stores will kick off in states like Colorado, Alaska, and Washington where marijuana is legal. Willie’s Reserve stores will move into additional states as the law allowing marijuana use continues to pass.
“Really he wants it, at the end of the day, to envelop what his personal morals and convictions are,” Bowman said. “So from the store itself to how they’ll work with suppliers and how things are operated, it’s going to be very reflective of Willie’s life.”
And for all those out there interested, Willie’s Reserve will apparently offer opportunities for other growers, who meet the quality standards, including carbon.
One thing is for sure – Willie isn’t slowing down anytime soon! For those of you in pot approved states– keep your eyes peeled to see if a Willie Reserve store pops up near you!View full mobile page
