Who better than one of the original outlaws to headline the brand new Outlaw Music Festival? Willie Nelson, Neil Young and Sheryl Crow have been tapped for the new day-long event taking place in Scranton, Pa.
The party, set for Sept. 18., features a lineup that mixes outlaw country and Americana artists. Lee Ann Womack and Brothers Osborne will play alongside the outlaw legends at the inaugural event. Neil Young’s band Promise of the Real, featuring Nelson’s sons Lukas and Micah, will join him onstage. Additional artists will be announced in the coming weeks.
The Outlaw Music Festival joins several new outlaw-themed music experiences. The Outlaws and Legends Festival takes place later this month in Colorado. The Outlaw Country Cruise will also enter its second year in February.
The subgenre’s recent rise in popularity is no surprise. Outlaw country arose in the 70s as an alternative to pop country. Now, it’s enjoying a resurgence as a response to the waning Bro Country trend.
The inaugural Outlaw Music Festival chose a pretty cool spot, too. The Pavilion at Montage Mountain hosts tons of concerts at its scenic stage, including the Peach Music Festival, which Nelson headlined last year.
Tickets for the first ever Outlaw Music Festival go on sale Friday, July 29. You can find out more about the festival and ticketing options here.
