Farm Aid will celebrate its 30th anniversary in a big way.
This year, the event will be held at the FirstMerit Bank Pavilion at Northerly Island, just outside of downtown Chicago on Sept. 19. It will feature performances by Farm Aid president Willie Nelson, board members Neil Young, John Mellencamp and Dave Matthews, as well as Kacey Musgraves, Old Crow Medicine Show, Holly Williams, Lukas Nelson & Promise of the Real, Mavis Staples, Jack Johnson, Imagine Dragons, Insects vs. Robots and Blackwood Quartet.
“We organized the first Farm Aid concert in Illinois in 1985 to respond to the people suffering during the Farm Crisis,” Nelson said in a statement. “Thirty years later, in Chicago, we’ll bring together so many of the people — farmers, eaters, advocates and activists — who have made the progress of the Good Food Movement possible. At Farm Aid 30, we’ll celebrate the impact we’ve had and rally our supporters for the work ahead.”
The first Farm Aid was held in 1985 at Memorial Stadium in Champaign, Illinois. Since then, the annual concert event has helped raise over $48 million for family farmers. Tickets for Farm Aid 30 will range in price from $49.50 to $189.50, and will go on sale Monday, August 3rd at 10 a.m. CDT. You can find out more information about the event at FarmAid.org.
