Willie Nelson is headed back to the big screen for an appearance in one of the most buzzed about sequels in recent years.
He’s set to make a cameo appearance in Zoolander 2, the sequel to Ben Stiller’s 2001 campy cult classic.
Nelson is close friends and neighbors with Owen Wilson, who plays simpleminded male model Hansel McDonald in the film. The two regularly hang out at Nelson’s clubhouse in Maui, Hawaii, where they meet to play chess, poker and dominoes. Wilson personally invited Nelson to star in a scene during filming in Italy, and now the rest is cinematic history.
Nelson will join Justin Bieber, Olivia Munn, Kristen Wiig and a list of other celebrities who will make guest appearances in Zoolander 2. According to Rolling Stone, Nelson will play himself in the film.
This won’t be Nelson’s first time on the big screen. He made his feature film debut in 1979’s The Electric Horseman and has since had roles in Honeysuckle Rose, Wag the Dog, Barbarosa, The Dukes of Hazzard, and Red Headed Stranger.
Zoolander 2 will be released to theaters on February 12, 2016. Nelson just released a collaborative album with Merle Haggard, Django and Jimmie, which is available online and in stores now.
